Maine’s health insurance carriers bring expertise and innovation into the marketplace, competing to present market-based coverage options that are responsive to the needs of employers and consumers.
Insurance carriers are the only participants in the healthcare system whose rates are regulated. They are also subject to loss ratio requirements and must provide their members with rebates if they collect more than they need to pay claims.
Together Maine’s health insurance providers support more than 6,000 jobs in direct and insurance related.
The mission of the Maine Association of Health Plans is to improve the health of Maine people by promoting affordable, safe, and coordinated health care.
